Tigers Sweep #1 Seeded Wittenberg to Advance to the NCAC Championship Match

Springfield, Ohio- The DePauw University volleyball team stun the No. 1 seeded Wittenberg University in a three-set sweep to advance to the NCAC Championship match against Dension.

DePauw stepped onto the court looking for retribution after being swept in three at home by Wittenberg during the regular season. The Tigers saw its chance to return the favor and end Wittenberg's tournament run in its semifinal matchup.

That desire to beat the Wittenberg Tigers was the fuel that pushed the DePauw Tigers to victory in a highly contested pairing.

In the first set, DePauw's ability to keep its errors at a minimum and efficiently attack the net lead to a 25-21 win.

Set two Wittenberg and DePauw was neck and neck; however, after 12 ties and six lead changes, the Tigers got up by three points and kept its lead despite having to face a late surge of kills by Wittenberg, winning the set 25-23.

With just one set between the DePauw Tigers and the NCAC Championship match, the energy on the court and the sideline was contagious. DePauw opened the set with a powerful block assist by Meaghan Etling and Morgan Stearley, which would help ignite a 6-2 run.

Wittenberg midway through the set did manage to tie the game at 13, but DePauw never gave up its lead. The Tigers recorded a whopping 18 kills, with just two errors off of 37 total attacks, bolstering a hitting percentage of .432 to finish the set 25-21.

DePauw is back on the court this evening to play in the NCAC Volleyball Championship at 5 p.m. against Denison University.
