St. Louis, Mo.- The DePauw University volleyball team split its final weekend of regular-season play at the WashU Quad, falling to Millikin University 3-2 and then coming back to the court to beat Centre College 3-0.
The Tigers fought hard through five grueling sets against the Big Blue. After losing the first set 25-19, DePauw turned the match around with back-to-back set wins (25-16, 25-22) to go up 2-1 in the fourth set.
Unfortunately, Millikin strung along a run of unanswerable kills and forced the Tigers to commit six errors in set four to tie the match up at two apiece. In the fifth and final set, the Big Blue jumped ahead early and never gave up its lead, finishing the match with a 15-8 set win.
With just a short amount of time to rest and adjust its play, DePauw was back on the court to face Centre College.
In the first set, the Tigers took the set 25-17, despite recording seven errors of its own and tallying just 11 kills.
At the beginning of the second set, the Colonels were in the lead, but the Tiger calmly took back control and secured its second set win with a score of 25-18.
Looking to close the Quad on a high note, DePauw went on a 1-6 run over Centre. With a hitting percentage of .244 and recording 16 kills in the set, the Tigers put away the Colonels 25-19 and earned its 15th win of the season.
The Tigers travel to Springfield, Ohio, to play in the NCAC Tournament on Friday, Nov. 8, at 7:30 p.m. with its opponent to be determined.
