Sept. 21, 2019- The DePauw University volleyball team finish the weekends' Quad Invite with a 3-0 win over Hanover College and a 4-1 loss to Muskingum.
In its first matchup of the afternoon, the Tigers managed to sweep the Panthers despite fighting hard to win the second set 27-25.
The key to its first match was the fact that DePauw came out strong hitting .258 percent with minimal errors. Although the second set required more out of the team back-to-back kills by Delaney Bell and Allie Frymire put the Tigers on top.
Much like its first set DePauw came out strong, grabbing a substantial lead early in the set, and maintaining the lead despite Hanovers' efforts.
The second match of the afternoon was against the 11-1 Muskingum University. Though the Tigres lost in four sets, DePauw missed the mark by just a few points in the sets that it lost.
Losing in the first set by four points both teams hit under .200 percent, and the Tigers only recorded 12 kills.
In the second set, however, DePauw managed to string along some strong plays and recorded 19 kills with just five errors committed.
The tables did turn back in the Fighting Muskies favor however in set three and four. The Tigers were unable to hold off Muskingum late in the final two sets despite jumping ahead early resulting in tightly contested finishes.
DePauw is back on the road to take on Rose-Hulman on Wednesday, Sept. 25th at 7 p.m. followed by its first conference match against Hiram College on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 1 p.m.
