Women Split a Pair Against Ranked Teams

St. Louis, Mo. – DePauw traveled to WashU this weekend and left with an 8-1 win over 36th-ranked UT-Tyler and a 9-0 loss to the 12th-ranked Bears.

On Friday, DePauw put on an impressive display starting with doubles play. The No. 1 team of Megan Galle and Sarah Wilder won 8-0; the No. 2 team of Colleen Morris and Ali Bush won 8-2; and the No. 3 team of Meredith Breda and Grace Haigh took an 8-4 win.

Of their singles' wins, all came in straight sets. Morris won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1; Galle put up a similar score at 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2; Breda won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3; Bush need a first set tiebreaker win but then cruised for a 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 win at No. 4; and at No. 5, Wilder on 6-3, 6-2.

DePauw's only loss came at the No. 6 spot where Haigh could not quite pull out an abbreviated third set 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (12-10). UT-Tyler fell to 13-6 with the loss.

Against WashU, fortunes were reversed. Everyone played in the same flight as doubles took 8-3, 8-5, and 8-1 losses, respectively.

Morris fell to 18th-ranked Grace Deering 6-0, 6-1, and Galle fell to No. 17 Ashley Lessen 4-6, 6-4, 11-9.  The rest fell in straight sets.

WashU moved to 12-5 with the win. DePauw is now 7-12 overall and will prepare for the NCAC Championships next weekend in Indianapolis, Ind.
