DePauw Named NCAC Tournament Runner-Up After 1-0 Double Overtime Loss to Wooster

Greencastle, Ind.- The DePauw University women's soccer team lose 1-0 in the NCAC Championship match in double-overtime to The College of Wooster.

Under the lights and with record crowds, the Tigers played hard and fast for 109 minutes. Between its last matchup against Wooster earlier in the regular season, the Tigers and the Fighting Scots played a total of 119 minutes of scoreless, and exciting soccer.

The nerves of the game were evident on both benches, however as time passed in the first half, DePauw began to establish the pace and managed to keep the ball in Wooster's half outshooting its opponents 8-2.

With so many looks on goal, the Tigers were just one touch away from getting the ball into the back of the Fighting Scots net. After the half, however, Wooster turned the tables and put the pressure on DePauw's backline.

Strong communication between goalie and defenders along with effective marking by the midfield, kept the Tigers in the match and hindered the Fighting Scots from getting good looks at goal.

At the end of regulation with the score tied at zero, each team came back onto the pitch ready to put the game away, though exhausted from the first 90 minutes of play. Between the first and second overtime, the Tigers only got off one shot to the Fighting Scots three.

Though DePauw controlled the ball for the majority of the match, Wooster caught the Tigers on their heels in a counter-attack with just a minute left in the match to take the NCAC Tournament Champion title.

Despite its loss to the Fighting Scots, the Tigers finished its season with a 12-6-2 record overall, remained undefeated in NCAC play during the regular season, and were named the 2019 NCAC Regular-Season Champions.
