Greencastle, Ind.- The DePauw University women's soccer team remains undefeated in the NCAC with its 1-0 victory over Wittenberg University.
The DePauw Tigers struck fast and early, with just 26 seconds into the first half Shaili Kumar pushed the ball up to Alex Wendt. Wendt then took on the last defender and snuck the shot past Wittenberg'sWittenberg's goalie into the back of the goal with precision.
With a 1-0 lead and practically the whole first half to play DePauw contained the Wittenberg Tigers to just five shots and one corner in the first half.
The second half Wittenberg fought to take control of the pace of the game, by putting excessive pressure on DePauw in its defensive end. Unfortunately for Wittenberg, the DePauw Tigers backline held firm and consistently cleared any attempts at goal.
Though DePauw was outshot 3 to 6 and recorded no corners in the second half, the DePauw 'Tigers' ability to keep its composure and to body up against its opponent for every loose ball paid off in the end.
The DePauw Tigers improved to 8-5-1 overall and 3-0-1 in the NCAC. DePauw's next game is Saturday, Oct. 19, at Denison University. Game time is set for noon.
