#16 Tigers Hold on for NCAC Win at Oberlin

Oberlin, Ohio - Maya Howard hit two free throws with 17 seconds left and Oberlin missed a 3-pointer with one second remaining as #16 DePauw took a 51-48 North Coast Athletic Conference win at Oberlin. The Tigers moved to 16-4 overall and 10-1 in NCAC play, while the Yeowomen dropped to 11-8 overall and 6-4 in conference play.

The Tigers led 12-8 after the first quarter and still held a narrow 27-26 advantage at halftime. Oberlin gained its largest lead of the contest at 34-30 on Olivia Canning's jumper with 4:32 left in the third, but DePauw responded with 10 straight as Claire Keefe scored the first five before Sydney Kopp hit a jumper and Natalie Kehrt nailed a three with 2:12 left to make it 40-34. DePauw took a 40-37 lead into the final period.

DePauw expanded the lead to 47-39 after Keefe's bucket with 6:23 left. The Yeowomen scored seven straight starting with Maggie Gross' jumper before Cheyenne Arthur hit a three and Gross followed with a layup to cut the Tigers' lead to 47-46 with 2:32 remaining.

After Kopp missed a 3-point attempt, Oberlin failed on a chance to take the lead on their next possession and Gross was whistled for a technical foul. Howard hit both free throws at the 1:44 mark to push the lead to three. Cannning nailed a pair of free throws with 47 seconds left to cut the DePauw lead to one. Howard missed on the Tigers' net possession, but Hayley Cange snagged the offensive rebound and was fouled. Oberlin fouled on the inbounds pass and Howard's two free shots made it 51-48.

Oberlin got the ball into the hands of Canning but her 3-pointer was off the mark and the Tigers took possession with one second left. DePauw called timeout and was able to run out on the ensuing inbounds pass.

Keefe paced the Tigers with 17 points, while Howard added 14. Cange grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds as the Tigers held a 42-38 edge on the boards. Kopp dished out five assists in the win.

Arthur paced Oberlin with 16 points, while Gross added 10 along with 10 rebounds and five blocks.

DePauw shot 33.9 percent to Oberlin's 35.7 percent, but DePauw made three more free throws and committed eight turnovers to the Yeowomen's 10.

The Tigers return to action on Friday, February 1, when they host Allegheny at 6 p.m.
