#19 DePauw Closes Game on 15-0 Run to Top Battling Bishops

Greencastle, Ind. - Leading 71-68, DePauw hit 3-pointers on three straight possessions and outscored Ohio Wesleyan 15-0 over the final 2:38 to claim an 86-68 North Coast Athletic Conference win over the visiting Battling Bishops. The 19th-ranked Tigers moved to 14-3 overall and 8-0 in the NCAC, while Ohio Wesleyan dropped to 8-8 overall and 3-4 in conference play.

The two teams were hot early as Ohio Wesleyan hit 9 of 10 field goal tries in the first quarter including all four 3-point attempts, while the Tigers opened with 7 of 8 shooting and finished the quarter shooting 53.3 percent. The Battling Bishops ended the quarter leading, 24-21. 

Ohio Wesleyan held as much as a five-point lead in the second quarter and later used a 7-0 run to take a 35-31 advantage with 4:19 left in the half. Meghann Dunning's 3-pointer with eight seconds left gave the Battling Bishops a 42-38 advantage before Maya Howard banked one in from just inside the midcourt line to cut the guest's halftime lead to 42-41.

The Battling Bishops led for most of the third before the Tigers evened the count a couple of times and the teams entered the fourth period tied, 56-56. DePauw never trailed in the fourth, but were only ahead by three after Ohio Wesleyan's Claire Sterling hit a jumper with 2:56 left. Claire Keefe nailed a three and Maya Howard added back-to-back treys as the Tigers grabbed an 80-68 lead with 1:05 remaining. Sydney Kopp hit four straight free throws and Howard knocked in a pair to seal the win. Over the final 2:14, the Battling Bishops missed four field goal tries and committed two turnovers on steals by Howard and Kopp.

Howard finished with a career-high 29 points including 13 in the second quarter and added six rebounds, six assists and two steals. Kopp finished with 20 points with 12 coming in the final frame. Keefe followed with 14 points and Mya Shannon added 13. 

Sterling paced Ohio Wesleyan with 18 points, while Erin Delaney added 17 and Devin Hefner 10.

DePauw shot 50.9 percent for the game to Ohio Wesleyan's 47.3 percent and the Tigers knocked in 9 of 19 3-pointers and 23 of 26 free throws. The Tigers also held a 27-25 edge on the boards and committed just nine turnovers to the Battling Bishops' 17.

The Tigers return to action on Saturday, January 19, with a 1 p.m. home game against Kenyon.
