Tigers advance to SCAC finals with win over host Rhodes

February 26, 2005, Memphis, Tenn. - The 14th-ranked DePauw women's basketball team improved to 23-4 on the season and advanced to Sunday's Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference championship game after an 82-56 win over host Rhodes in today's second semifinal game.

The Tigers will make their third trip to the SCAC finals in as many years and, for the third straight year, will face Trinity University in the title game with an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship at stake. Tipoff is at noon CST and the game can be heard live on WGRE.

DePauw never trailed in the contest after jumping out to a 15-3 lead in the first five minutes. The first-half advantage reached as many as 26 points on a couple of occasions before the Tigers went to the break with a 44-19 lead. The Tigers' lead was as great as 34 in the second half.

Caitlin McGonigal led all scorers with 21 points and knocked down three three-pointers. Amy Argetsinger added 13 and Liz Bondi totaled 10 as 12 different DePauw players reached the scorebook. Ashley Farrell paced Rhodes with 14 with Crystal Jessee adding 11.

DePauw shot 48 percent for the game including 52.9 percent in the first half and outrebounded the Lynx by a 46-28 margin. McGonigal grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Tigers, while Rene Orth paced Rhodes with nine boards.
