Greencastle, Ind.- DePauw was able to push across the game's lone run in the bottom half of the fourth inning to defeat Wittenberg in the winner's bracket of the North Coast Athletic Conference Softball Tournament.
DePauw improved to 29-12 and advanced to tomorrow's championship game scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start. Wittenberg dropped to 20-16 and will play tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. against the winner of the Allegheny vs. Denison game.
Both pitchers controlled the pace of the game for the opening three innings before DePauw broke through in the fourth inning. Elizabeth Getz singled through the right side to start the frame and moved to second on Linsey Button's single to left. Lauren Godden reached on a fielder's choice and Getz beat the throw at third to load the bases.
Getz was retired at the plate on Taylor Golden's fielder's choice to first base. With one out, Gabby Smart hit a ground ball to third that allowed pinch-runner Andi Sarkisian to score on a fielder's choice.
Kahla Nolan took care of Wittenberg for the opening five innings and Emma Baldwin shut the door in the sixth and seventh. Nolan moved to 15-7 on the year, allowing just four hits with five strikeouts. Baldwin picked up her fourth save after tossing two innings in relief with no hits allowed and three strikeouts.
Chelsea Zang dropped to 12-7 with the loss, tossing six innings with six hits and two strikeouts.
