Greencastle, Ind. – The men's tennis team was on the wrong end of a Sunday matchup, falling 8-1 to Northwestern Ohio.
The Racers, ranked fifth in the latest biweekly NAIA Men's Tennis Coaches' Top 25 Poll, improve to 3-2, while DePauw drops to 1-6.
In doubles play, Greg Frauenheim and Bryce McClanahan came close at the No. 1 flight but faltered late in a 9-8 (9-7) loss. At No. 2 doubles Matthew Quammen and Alex Bertolini lost 8-5, and at No. 3 doubles Sean Carroll and Alex Pintilie dropped an 8-4 match.
In singles play, Bertolini picked up the lone win at the No. 5 flight, 3-6, 6-3, 10-7, after winning a 10-game pro set in his third set.
At No. 1 singles Frauenheim fell 6-3, 6-3; at No. 2 singles McClanahan fell 6-4, 6-3; at No. 3 singles Pintilie lost 6-3, 6-3; Quammen fell at the No. 4 flight 6-1, 6-0; and Daniel Kinas fell 6-1, 6-4 at the No. 6 spot.
DePauw will return to action March 3 when they travel to Rhodes to face Milsaps and Harding.
