No. 6 Bears Defeat Tigers 6-3

Greencastle, Ind. – No. 35 DePauw took an early 2-1 lead after doubles play but could only get one victory in the singles' flights as they lost to sixth-ranked Washington University 6-3 on Saturday.

WashU started the match defeating the No. 3 doubles team of Nate Wallace and Harold Martin 8-6, but DePauw's top two doubles teams made things interesting.

The No. 1 duo of Patrick Farrell and John Daseke went up 6-3 and finished off their opponents at 8-5. Then, the No. 2 team of Dan Rodefeld and Matt Santen fought back after being down 6-3 to win 9-8 with a 7-2 tiebreaker.

In singles action, the two, three, five and six flights lost in straight sets, while the one and four spots played a 10-game pro third set.

At No. 4 Greg Frauenheim captured the lone win after a 7-6 (7-5), 3-6, 12-10 showing. Rodefeld had a heavyweight battle at the No. 1 flight with the 43rd-ranked Johnny Wu but lost 7-6 (7-2), 6-7 (5-7), 10-6.

At No. 2 the 34th-ranked John Carswell defeated Matt Santen 6-2, 6-4. Patrick Farrell lost at the No. 3 position 6-1, 6-4. At No. 5 Petar Barcot fell 6-4, 6-2, and at No. 6 Wallace fell 6-3, 6-1.

DePauw now sits at 4-5 overall, while WashU improves to 8-3.

Next, the Tigers head to California for spring break starting with a match at Westmont on Tuesday.
