Sept. 25, 2019 (Decatur, Ill.)- The DePauw University men's soccer team were shut down in a 2-1 overtime loss to Millikin University.
Neither team could get on the board in the first half; however, DePauw managed to lead Millikin statistically. Outshooting the Big Blue 4-3, and tallying three corners to its one, DePauw had the looks but were unable to capitalize.
In the second half, neither team seemed to get a step on its opponent, until Millikin got a point-blank shot after a clean pass across the box to put the Big Blue up in the 63rd- minute.
Over ten minutes would pass before DePauw came back with an answer of its own. In the 75th-minute, breaking away from the defensive line Jake Limauro received a well-placed pass by Will Hartman to then take a shot at goal about 15 yards out.
Kicking it low and into the left corner of Millikin's net the game was tied once again putting the Tigers back into the game and ultimately sending the match into overtime.
It was anyone's game in overtime, with ten minutes on the clock both DePauw and the Big Blue turned up its defense and fought to maintain the ball and attack.
Unfortunately for the Tigers, Millikin's leading scorer found the back of the net once again, this time 25 yards out to seal the Big Blues victory over DePauw in the 98th minute.
The Tigers are back home at Reavis Stadium for Family Weekend on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 5 p.m. following the women's soccer match. Both the men and women's teams face Oberlin in their first conference matchups of the season.
