Sept. 21, 2019 (Danville, Ky.)- The DePauw University men's soccer team fell 2-0 to the Centre College Colonels stopping its five-game win streak in its tracks.
Despite the shutout loss to Centre, DePauw held its own against the talented Colonels. The Tigers still managed to attempt five corners, while holding Centre to just two, however, the physicality and the accuracy of the Colonels proved to be more than the Tigers could handle.
Centre held the Tigers to just ten shots on goal, in comparison its average 16 shots.
Getting an edge on DePauw early, Centre's leading scorer Garuba took on the Tiger backline and scored in the eight-minute mark.
Down by one, DePauw continued to play physical keeping up with its opponents and managing to keep the ball more in the middle of the field. However, in the second half of the match Centre maintained possession of the ball and stifled most of the Tigers charges to the goal.
DePauw found itself on the defensive, once again Garuba managed to slip through the defense and scored, putting the Colonels up by two with 15 minutes left in the match.
Getting just three shots off in the second, the Tigers' pursuit of cutting the lead in half, became a battle against not only Centre but also with time itself.
Unable to find the net, DePauw succumbed to its first loss in five games.
DePauw (5-2) travels to Decatur, Ill. to play Millikin University on Wednesday, Sept. 25, with a game-time set for 8:30 p.m. EDT.
