Elmhurst, Ill. - Jack Richey scored four times and led DePauw to an 8-4 win at Elmhurst. The Tigers improved to 1-4 with the win, while the Bluejays dropped to 2-2 with the loss.
Richey scored two of those goals in the first quarter and they sandwiched a Ben Davis score as the Tigers led 3-0 after the first quarter. Steen Jorgensen's goal in the opening minute of the second made it 4-0. Elmhurst's Marcus Yandall put the hosts on the board with 9:06 left in the half and Richey made it 5-1 with 28 seconds left in the half.
Elmhurst trimmed the lead to 5-3 in the third before Richey's fourth goal with 1:48 left in the quarter pushed DePauw's lead to 6-3. Davis scored 2:06 into the fourth to make it 7-3. A little over a minute later, Elmhurst countered and DePauw's Quinn Roddy wrapped up the scoring with 1:06 left.
In addition to Richey's four goals, Davis added two and Patrick Durnien assisted on two. Mac Harden led Elmhurst with two goals.
Luke Ruiz-Funes recorded 14 saves in goal for the Tigers, while Noah Bachofen stopped 10 for Elmhurst.
Elmhurst outshot DePauw, 34-21, and had a 29-28 edge in ground balls. The Bluejays committed 26 turnovers to DePauw's 24 and the hosts won nine of the 14 faceoffs.
DePauw travels to Illinois Wesleyan on Wednesday, March 20, for a 7:30 p.m. CDT contest.
