Greencastle, Ind. - After trailing by six at the half, DePauw scored four straight in the first five minutes of the third, but Capital countered with the next four and took a 14-9 win over DePauw. The Tigers dropped to 0-2, while the Crusaders evened their record at 1-1.
Capital struck quickly to start the game with three goals in the opening 2:29, but Will Roberts stopped the run with 10:27 left in the opening quarter. The Crusaders took a 5-2 lead into the second quarter. DePauw trimmed the deficit to 6-4 after goals by Ben Davis and Will Roberts, but Capital closed the half with four straight to take a 10-4 advantage into the intermission.
Davis, Jack Richey, Dan McCauley and Roberts each scored in the opening 4:39 of the third to close the Capital lead to 10-8. Capital's Zack Heflin ended the run with a score with 5:38 remaining in the third. The Crusaders extended the lead to 14-8 before Steen Jorgensen wrapped up the scoring with 3:38 left.
Davis and Roberts each scored three for the Tigers, while Davis added two assists. CJ Hughes and Barrett Naugle paced Capital with four goals.
Quinn Cashion won 12 of his 19 faceoffs and picked up 11 ground balls for the Tigers.
Capital outshot DePauw, 34-29, while the Tigers held a 38-33 edge in ground balls. The Tigers won 15 of the 27 faceoffs and committed 27 turnovers to Capital's 24.
DePauw hosts Carthage on Saturday, March 2, at 2 p.m.
