Gambier, Ohio- The DePauw University field hockey team fell 1-0 to the Ladies of Kenyon College in a hard-fought match against this season's top NCAC conference team.
The Tigers held firm and kept the Kenyon Ladies at bay for the majority of the first quarter. Despite being outshot 0-5, DePauw's ability to recover on the defensive and aggressive clearing allowed the Tigers to stay in the game.
Though Kenyon did score on the DePauw late in the first quarter, the Tigers managed to hold the Ladies to just one goal in the first half.
DePauw came out of the half with determination. Taking the game into its own hands, the Tigers managed to control the pace of the third quarter, tallying three shots and two corners in that quarter alone.
In the fourth quarter of play, the Ladies of Kenyon continued to find its way to the DePauw striking circle. Although the Tigers came up short in regulation, its ability to stifle the Ladies' offensive attacks and keep them to just one goal was an accomplishment in itself.
The Tigers continue to play on the road tomorrow, Sunday, Oct. 20, at the College of Wooster. Game time is set for 11 a.m.
