Sept. 14, 2019 (Meadville, Pa.)- The DePauw University field hockey team commanded the field in a 4-0 shutout win, as it took on Allegheny College on National Field Hockey Day.
Scoring a goal in each quarter the Tigers outshot the Gator 25 to 2, improving its shot attempts with each quarter of play.
Late in the first period, Kate Milner took control of the ball and scored an unassisted goal to give DePauw a 1-0 lead going into the second quarter.
Just three minutes into the second quarter Alexa Steil collects a well-placed corner by Milner and dodges her last defender in the circle to score.
With a 2-0 lead at the beginning of the half, the Tigers continued to put pressure on the Gators defensive line, resulting in yet another penalty corner. This time Gretchen Bechthold fielded the penalty corner pass and found Allison Quackenbush to bring DePauw's lead to 3-0.
Allegheny would play hard in the remaining minutes of the fourth quarter, containing the Tigers' attacks on goal. However, DePauw would out-hustle the Gators, and with just a minute left earned a penalty corner. Milner would initiate the corner, which was then fielded by Quackenbush and passed back to Milner for a give and go attack at goal, that put the Tigers up 4-0.
The DePauw field hockey team (2-3) returns to Greencastle to play Wooster College in its Home Opener on Saturday, Sept. 21 at noon.
