Greencastle, Ind. - Wittenberg scored twice in the opening 20 minutes of the second half and held off a late surge by DePauw and came away with a 2-1 North Coast Athletic Conference win over the host Tigers. DePauw dropped to 9-9 overall and 6-7 in the NCAC, while Wittenberg moved to 6-10 overall and 6-7 in NCAC play.
DePauw appeared to have taken the lead midway through the first half but the officials waved off the score. The teams played a scoreless first half before Wittenberg struck just 53 seconds into the second half as Blaine Donnelly scored on an assist from Flora Van den borne. Kayla Cull made it 2-0 at 54:28 on a second assist from Van den Borne.
The hosts cut the lead in half as Cathy Zesiger delivered an assist off a corner to Sarah Simon who found the back of the cage for the sixth time this season at 62:30. DePauw fired five shots in the final six minutes with three being saved and one hitting the post.
DePauw outshot Wittenberg, 16-11 and held an 11-6 edge on shots. DePauw also held a 16-8 edge in corners including 11-3 in the second half.
DePauw travels to Earlham on Saturday, October 27, for an 11 a.m. contest.
