First-Half Surge Leads League-Leading Denison to Win over Tigers

Granville, Ohio - Host Denison scored four times in the opening half on the way to a 5-2 North Coast Athletic Conference win over DePauw. The Tigers dropped to 6-5 overall and 5-3 in NCAC play, while Denison improved to 10-2 overall and 8-0 in conference play.

Four different Big Red players scored in the opening 29:03 as Lucy Peasall, Maya Tumiwa, Charlotte Godfrey and Michelle Kabaira each found the back of the cage. AC Veith assisted on a pair with Godfrey adding another. Lauren Lazo added a second-half score to make it 5-0 before DePauw's Gretchen Bechthold scored on Kelsey Doerr's assist with 11:23 remaining and Sarah Goff wrapped up the scoring with 1:32 left on Bechthold's assist.

Denison outshot the Tigers, 17-6, including 14-3 on goal. The Big Red also held a 9-4 edge in penalty corners.

Hannah Metzger finished with six saves for the Tigers with Sarah Foye adding three. Denison's Kerry Lawler stopped one DePauw shots and split time in goal with Teya Adams.

DePauw returns to action tomorrow with an 11 a.m. contest at Transylvania.
