Five-Goal Second Half Propels DePauw to Season's First Win

Delaware, Ohio - After battling to a 1-1 tie through the first 43 minutes at Ohio Wesleyan, DePauw erupted for five second-half goals in a 6-3 North Coast Athletic Conference win over the Battling Bishops. DePauw improved to 1-4 overall and 1-2 in the NCAC, while Ohio Wesleyan dropped to 4-2 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

Gretchen Bechthold gave DePauw a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute off of Cathy Zesiger's assist before Alexis Roberts evened the score in the 24th minute off of Jamie Grant's assist.

The game remained tied until Bechthold scored again from Zesiger at 43:31 and just 1:47 later Kate Milner made it 3-1 with an assist from Corina Bourantas

Ohio Wesleyan knotted the score at 3-3 as Barbara Welling and Roberts scored with Welling assisting on the latter at 54:27. 

Milner provided the eventual game-winner at 59:30 on an assist from Chrstina Bourantas before Bechthold recorded a hat trick on KElsey Doerr's assist at 62:17. Maddi Little rounded out the scoring on Zesiger's third assist with less than one minute remaining.

DePauw outshot the Bishops, 19-9 including 7-5 on goal. The Tigers also held a 16-6 edge in corners. Hannah Metzger recorded one save in goal, while Ohio Wesleyan's Paige Ross also had one save.

The Tigers host Oberlin at Noon on Saturday, September 22, in a contest that will be played at Blackstock Stadium.
