An intern with the Ball State University football program in the summer of 2010, Mannering taught English at Goshen High School during the spring of 2011.
He then moved on to Carthage College (Wis.) where he coached wide receivers, was responsible for offensive film breakdown and served as the team's academic tutor. While at Carthage, Mannering also worked toward a master of education degree.
