Granville, Ohio - DePauw scored on the game's opening drive, but host Denison responded on the next possession and pulled away for a 42-7 North Coast Athletic Conference win over the Tigers. DePauw dropped to 4-4 overall and 4-3 in the NCAC, while Denison improved to 7-1 overall and 6-1 in conference play.
The Tigers needed just five plays after the opening kickoff before Jarrod Stiver scored on a 7-yard run. The Big Red countered with a 10-play series that culminated in a Drew Dawkins 10-yard scoring pass to Dallas Griffiths.
On its next drive, DePauw drove inside the Denison 5 and had a couple of chances from the 1, but couldn't score and turned the ball over on downs.
After Denison scored on its first two possessions of the second quarter, the Tigers advanced to the Denison 13 late in the half, but quarterback Collin Knecht was sacked and fumbled and the hosts ran out the clock.
The Big Red scored on the opening drive of the second half to extend the lead to 28-7 and tacked on two more scores in the fourth for the final margin.
Denison outgained the Tigers, 373-195, including 220-36 on the ground and held a 24-14 edge in first downs.
Alex Minton rushed for 151 yards in 27 carries with two touchdowns with Dawkins adding 40 yards in nine attempts. Dawkins completed 9 of 15 passes for 147 yards and two scores with six passes going to Peyton Vining for 103 yards.
DePauw returns to Blackstock Stadium on Saturday, November 9, for a 1 p.m. NCAC game against Oberlin.
