DePauw Drops Season's First Two Games

Hoover, Ala. - DePauw opened the 2019 season with a pair of losses as the Tigers fell to Thomas More, 5-3, and to Birmingham-Southern, 8-1.

Against Thomas More, Grant Rademacher struck out seven in the first three innings and allowed two runs (one earned) over four innings. The Saints extended the lead to 4-0 in the sixth before Nolan Lavender's solo homer in the sixth put the Tigers on the board. 

Thomas More added another run in the seventh before Nick Nelson's solo homer in the ninth cut the deficit to 5-2. TJ Carney-DeBord then walked and later scored on Brayden White's single.

DePauw finished with eight hits with Lavender, White and CJ Yoannou each totaling two. Rademacher suffered the loss on the mound.

In the Birmingham-Southern contest, the Panthers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first and added single runs in the third and eighth which sandwiched four in the sixth. DePauw's lone run came in the ninth as Lavender led off with a single, stole second and moved to third on Yoannou's hit. Carney-DeBord plated Lavender with a groundout.

Nelson had two of DePauw's five hits. Starter Nick Casey took the loss.

DePauw faces Thomas More tomorrow at 2 p.m. CST.
