Crawfordsville, Ind. -- DePauw scored six runs in the final five frames but couldn't overcome an early 6-0 deficit, falling to Wabash 8-6 on Tuesday to split their NCAC West Division series.
Andrew Quinn (4-2) started but only lasted 2.1 innings in taking the loss. He gave up three earned runs on six hits. He also struck out three batters.
The Tigers threatened in the ninth down four runs. However, they scored both their runs scored and recorded outs at the same time. Hammel hit a sacrifice fly to right field and Stewart grounded out for an RBI.
DePauw moves to 27-8 overall and 10-4 in the NCAC West. Wabash is 21-14 and 6-8.
Sitting atop the West division, DePauw will host the fourth place team in the East, Kenyon, in a three game series for the NCAC Crossover series next weekend. The teams will play a doubleheader starting at noon Saturday at Walker Field before meeting again on Sunday to conclude the series.
