A native of Greensburg, Ind., Dale Anderson was an outstanding athlete who won 12 varsity letters in three sports at Burney High School. In basketball he was a three-year all-conference selection, two-years all sectional and two years most valuable player. He transferred to DePauw after a brief stint at Indiana University and made an immediate impact on the basketball court as an agile and accurate six-foot forward. In 1960-61 he set the DePauw single-season scoring record (439 points), was the Indiana Collegiate Conference leading scorer and finished fourth in scoring among all Indiana college players. He is 15th on the DePauw all-time career scoring leader list and he set the all-time scoring average mark at 19.2 points per game, a record that stands to this day. He received the Indianapolis Alumni Club MVP award. In 1960 he was listed in "Who’s Who" American Cagers, the following year he was an All-ICC Team selection, and he was a two-year honorable mention UPI Little All-American. Anderson also lettered in track, with the unique event combination of high jump, shot put and javelin. After graduation with a degree in Economics, Anderson joined the U.S. Air Force, as an Officer Training School Distinguished Graduate in 1963, an Instructor Pilot from 1965-68, a Proficiency Evaluation Pilot from 1969-70, and finally as Combat Pilot and Flight Leader with the USAF Reserve from 1971-76. In 1973 he became president of Lamborn Floral Company, a wholesale florist and agricultural supply company in Alliance, OH. He has been an active volunteer in that community, serving on the Fair Housing Board, the Stark County Republican Executive Committee, the Alliance City Hospital Board of Trustees and the Alliance Area Youth Center Board of Trustees. He also has served as member and vice-chairman of the Alliance Board of Zoning Appeals and on the Zoning Review Commission. His business interests also include banking and since 1988, as president of D. Anderson Corporation, an oil and gas exploration and production firm. Anderson and his wife Kim have five grown children, Kristen (Vanderbilt ’87), Brendan ’88 (a former member of the DePauw Alumni Board), Eric (Miami, OH ’90) and Jennifer (Toledo ’94) and McKendree (Miami, OH ’03).
