Ann Wilhoite Brilley was a standout golfer for DePauw despite the fact that there was no organized women's team sponsored by the University. Playing in a time when there were few opportunities for female athletes to compete, Brilley played in the women's national Collegiate Championship, finishing eighth among the national powers. Upon graduation she taught mathematics at North Central High School where she started the girls' golf team and coached them to state championships in 1973 and 1974. Her golf achievements continued following graduation from DePauw as she finished no worse than a quarterfinalist for seven straight years at both the Women's Golf Association of Metropolitan Indianapolis and Indiana Women's Golf Association tournaments. A state champion in 1970 and 1973, Brilley has also qualified three times for the United States Women's Amateur Public Links Championship, the last time coming in 1991. Brilley has served on the DePauw Alumni Association Board of Directors from 1975-78.
