The 2007 WOMEN’S BASKETBALL TEAM finished with a 31-3 record and captured the school’s first team national championship with a 55-52 win over Washington University in St. Louis in the NCAA Division III title game. Following a road loss in February, the Tigers won their final 11 contests. The Tigers won the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference championship with three tournament wins in three days before opening the NCAA postseason with home wins over Transylvania and Denison. They then traveled to Boston where they beat 13th-ranked and host Emmanuel by 24 points. In the national quarterfinals, DePauw topped seventh-ranked Calvin and advanced to the national semifinals for the second time in school history. In the national semifinals in Springfield, Mass., the Tigers rallied from a 10-point deficit to top 10th-ranked Mary Washington. In the title game, DePauw held off a late charge by the Bears to win the title. The 31 wins established a school record, and Liz Bondi was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Championship, while classmate Suzy Doughty also earned a spot on the all-tournament team. Head coach Kris Huffman was named the Division III Coach of the Year by D3hoops.com and D3News, while Bondi was a second team choice by each organization.
