Rome, Ga. - DePauw captured the Berry College Invitational after defeating Lynchburg and second-ranked Emory this afternoon to finish 3-1 for the weekend.
The Tigers blanked Lynchburg 25-19, 25-16, 25-18 before knocking off Emory 3-1 (28-26, 19-25, 25-13, 25-22).
In the Lynchburg match the Tigers hit .293 to the Hornets' .031. Mary Kate Etling totaled a team-high 12 kills and finished with a .579 attack percentage, while Faith Rolwes assisted on 34 of the Tigers' 39 kills. Rolwes also led the way with three service aces with Keely McGrath topping the team with 14 digs.
Against Emory, DePauw trailed 24-22 in the opening set, but rallied for a 28-26 win. The Eagles took the second set, 25-19, before the Tigers won the final two 25-13 and 25-22.
DePauw totaled 46 kills paced by Rolwes with 11. Rolwes also led with a .579 attack percentage and assisted on 26 of the Tigers' 46 kills. The Tigers finished with 11 service aces paced by Rachael Lenderman's four. McGrath paced the squad with 28 digs with Elisabeth Wilson recording seven total saves.
Rolwes was named the tournament's most valuable player, while Etling was named to the all-tournament team.
The Tigers return to action on Friday, September 5, when they face Spalding in a 7:45 p.m. match at Hanover College.
