Greencastle, Ind. - The DePauw volleyball team was honored by the American Volleyball Coaches Association as a recipient of the AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2013-14 year.
The Tigers were among 129 NCAA Division III women's programs to earn the distinction of having at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade point average for the school year. Overall, a record 684 college and high school teams earned the honor this year.
On the court, DePauw put together one of the best seasons in school history with a 26-7 overall record including the program's fourth appearance in the NCAA Division III postseason and first in 13 years.
The AVCA Team Academic Award has become one of the AVCA's fastest growing awards programs, seeing an impressive surge in teams honored over the past several years. Since the 2000-2001 season, the number of recipients have increased every single year but one, while amassing an overall 500% increase over the span of the last decade. Since the award's inception in 1993, the amount of award winners has increased from 62 to its current number of 684.
DePauw earned the award three times, previously, including 2006-07, 2008-09 and 2009-10.
