Tigers Compete at Butler Invitational

Indianapolis, Ind. - DePauw traveled to Butler University and competed in the two-day Buter Fall Invitational where they picked up three top-three finishes in singles and one in doubles.

In singles flight B, Julie Wittwer defeated Selenay Heper of Indianapolis in the opening round 2-6, 7-5, 1-0 (16-14) before losing to Dayton's Marlys Bridgham in the semifinals 6-2, 6-0. Wittwer came back to top Sammie Hornbarger of Dayton 6-1, 6-2 in the third-place match 6-1, 6-2.

Gretchen Wilder beat Dana Olsen of Indianapolis in the first round 6-4, 6-2, but dropped a 6-2, 6-1 decision to Dayton's Jackie Kawamonto in the semifinals. Wilder earned third place by defeating Brooke Boyts of Indianapolis 6-1, 6-3.

Gabby Jensen finished second in flight E after defeating teammate Libby Grant in the first match 6-2, 6-4 but losing to Butler's Callie Schmit 6-3, 6-0 in the championship round.

Taylor Mahr and Carolyn Huerth were 8-5 winners over Dayton's Alex Townsend and Hornbarger, before dropping an 8-5 match to Butler's Angelina Qin and Rachel Sutton. Mahr and Huerth beat Heper and Macey Speer of Indianapolis, 8-6, and claimed third.

The Tigers return to action on September 19-22 when they compete in the USTA/ITA Central Region Championship in Kalamazoo, Mich.
