Emhardt and MacPhail Drop NCAA First-Round Match
Claremont, Calif. - DePauw's doubles team of Caroline Emhardt and Maggie MacPhail won their opening set in the first round of the NCAA Division III Doubles Championship, but Skidmore's Madeline Benn and Lee Ford rallied to win the next two and advance to the national quarterfinals.
Emhardt and MacPhail took the opening set by a 6-3 scorem but lost the second 6-4 after trailing 4-1. In the third, the Tigers tandem was ahead 5-4 and serving, but Skidmore's team broke serve and proceeded to win the next two games and the match.
The duo finished the season with a 29-7 mark including the United States Tennis Association/Intercollegiate Tennis Association regional title in the fall that assures them all-America status. They finished sixth at the Division III portion of the USTA/ITA Small College National Championships.
