Greencastle, Ind. - The 13th-ranked DePauw women battled eighth-ranked Chicago in the quarterfinal round of the 2014 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division III Women's Team Indoor Championship before dropping a 5-4 decision.
The Tigers dropped to 5-1 on the season, while Chicago improved to 4-1. DePauw faces Washington-St. Louis in the backdraw tomorrow morning at 8:30 a.m., while Chicago faces Carnegie Mellon in a 2 p.m. semifinal match.
Caroline Emhardt and Maggie MacPhail collected an 8-6 win at number-two doubles with Julie Wittwer and Kaitlin Pickrel taking an exciting 9-8 (10-8) win at third doubles to give DePauw a 2-1 edge heading into singles play.
Chicago picked up four wins in singles to take the win. DePauw's wins came from Claire Marshall in straight sets at the second spot and Emhardt with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at number six.
