Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw's women opened the season at brand new Reavis Stadium, but Birmingham-Southern spoiled the Tigers' historic debut with a 4-0 victory on a warm, muggy night.
The Panthers took a 2-0 halftime lead as Sammy Manzo scored at 20:26 and Hannah Snoddy added a tally at the 25:13 mark. Jessie Sperry added the third goal to push the margin to 3-0 at 52:47 before Kayla Auger rounded out the scoring at 71:27.
Birmingham-Southern outshot DePauw, 16-4 and held a 11-4 margin in shots on goal. The Panthers finished with a 5-4 edge in corners. DePauw totaled 11 fouls with the Panthers finishing with 10.
DePauw's Emma Cooper stopped seven shots for the Tigers, while Katie Williams finished with four saves for the Panthers.
The Tigers face Ohio Northern at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow, while Birmingham-Southern faces Illinois Wesleyan in the 4 p.m. contest. In the evening's opening game, Ohio Northern blanked 1-0 on Missy Ward's goal from Kristina Klusek's assist at 15:05.
