DePauw Rallies for Doubleheader Split at Top-Ranked Berry

Mount Berry, Ga. - DePauw scored three in the seventh and four in the eighth of game two of its doubleheader at top-ranked Berry to gain a 10-7 victory and a split of the twinbill. Berry won the opener, 7-4. The Tigers are 3-11, while the Vikings move to 26-2.

In game two, DePauw entered the seventh trailing, 6-3, before evening the score. Jordyn Fera singled with one out and moved to second when Megan Montgomery reached on a fielder's choice. Gabby Smart walked and Godden came through with a bases-clearing double to left center.

In the eighth, with the tiebreaker rule in place, Kathleen Byers was placed on second and scored when Liz Getz reached on an error. Fera walked and Montgomery drove in Getz when she reached on a fielder's choice. Smart's sacrifice bunt moved the runners up and Godden delivered a two-run single to center.

Elisabeth Federici doubled in one in the bottom of the eighth, but DePauw pitcher Emma Baldwin recorded the last two outs via strikeout to end the game.

Berry grabbed a 4-0 lead in the first as Brittany Ferrell led of with a walk and moved to second on Kylie Aiken's bunt single. Sarah Moore's bunt single plated Ferrell before Kayla Sangrey delivered a two-run single and later scored on a wild pitch.

The Tigers answered with three in the second as Sidney Holler led off with a walk and pinch-runner Mina Shaw stole second. Abey Bass and Kathleen Byers walked to load the bases before Getz scored Shaw with a single. An error on the play allowed Bass to score. Montgomery added a two-out single that score Byers.

Berry added two more in the third as Moore led off with a walk and scored on Marie Collop's double. After Kenzie Fleming reached on a fielder's choice, Sangrey scored her with a double.

Godden had three of DePauw's seven hits and drove in five. Ferrell, Sangrey and Federici each had two of Berry's 11 hits. 

Baldwin picked up the relief win after allowed one unearned run in five innings to improve to 1-3. Kassie Howard dropped to 10-1.

In the opener, Berry jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first as Brittany Tuttle led off with a walk, stole second and third and scored on Moore's sacrifice fly to right. Collop followed with a double and came home on Kenzie Fleming's homer to left.

The Vikings added one more in the second as Federici and Katlin Seger led off with walks and Aiken reached on an error. Ferrell's single scored Federici and made it 4-0. Federici's single to left in the third which plated Bethany Hunt made it 5-0. 

DePauw reached the board in the fourth as Smart walked and stole second before Godden walked. Holler followed with an RBI single that scored Smart. Sarah Beischer pinch-ran for Godden and moved to third on a wild pitch. Bass then reached on an error that allowed Beischer to score.

Berry pushed the lead to 7-2 in the fourth with two more runs before the Tigers scored a pair in the fifth on Montgomery's two-run single.

Fera led DePauw with two of its five hits, while Collop had two of Berry's five.

Brooke Bandy suffered the loss in the circle and dropped to 0-7, while Collop improved to 9-1.

DePauw wraps up its southern swing with a 1:30 p.m. doubleheader at Emory.
