DePauw Bows out of NCAA Championship

Angola, Ind. - Host Trine scored once in the first and tacked on three insurance runs in the seventh and knocked DePauw out of the NCAA Division III Championship with a 4-1 win.

DePauw's season ended with a 27-20 record, while seventh-ranked Trine improved to 39-4 and faces Muskingum tomorrow in the final day of the Division III Regional.

Trine's Carly Searles led off the game with a triple to center and scored on Kendra Marshall's squeeze bunt.

A pitcher's duel ensued with neither team scoring until the seventh. In fact, the Tigers had just one base runner past first in the opening six innings.

In the seventh, Trine's Catherine Porter singled with one out and pinch-runner Allison Lang moved to second on Lamie Lydick's sacrifice bunt. Haleigh Daniels followed with a double that scored Lang before Searles reached and scored on a DePauw outfield error that also allowed Daniels to score.

Linsey Button his a one-out solo homer in the bottom of the seventh, but two fly outs ended the game.

Jennifer Ridge, Button and Morgan Pigusch each had one hit for the Tigers, while five different Trine players collected one hit apiece.

Kahla Nolan finished the season at 23-14, while Justine Robles improved to 11-2.
