Angola, Ind. - DePauw jumped out to an early lead, but Muskingum posted single runs in the fourth and fifth innings and advanced in the NCAA Division III Regional winner's bracket with a 2-1 win over the Tigers.
DePauw dropped to 26-19 and faces the loser of today's Trine/Washington & Jefferson in a 1:30 p.m. elimination game tomorrow afternoon. Muskingum improved to 27-16 and faces the winner of today's other game in an 11 a.m. meeting tomorrow.
The Tigers got out to a 1-0 lead in the first as Sammi Bell led off with a single, moved to second on Jennifer Ridge's ground out and to third on Linsey Button's single through the left side. Button was caught stealing on a play that allowed Bell to score from third.
DePauw starter Kahla Nolan retired the first nine batters she faced before Kayley Bevard led off the fourth with a single and Kelly Martin moved her to second with a sacrifice bunt. Jessica Matthews evened the score with a single up the middle.
Muskingum took the lead in the fifth when Jaclynn Hess led off the frame with a double and moved to third on Dakota DeAmicis' sacrifice bunt. Amber Bova followed with single to center, scoring Hess.
The Tigers loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, but couldn't bring home a run.
DePauw totaled six hits with just two in the final four innings and Bell led the way with a pair of singles. Five different Muskies collected one hit apiece.
Nolan dropped to 22-13 despite allowing just five hits with five strikeouts and no walks. Kristin Gill improved to 8-3 and struck out four with no walks.
