Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw stayed perfect in North Coast Athletic Conference play after sweeping visiting Ohio Wesleyan by scores of 5-2 and 7-2. The Tigers moved to 17-11 overall and 8-0 in NCAC play, while the Battling Bishops dropped to 12-12 overall and 2-4 in NCAC contests.
DePauw struck first in the opener with a three-run first inning as Jennifer Ridge singled with two outs and moved to second on Lauren Krumwiede's base hit. Grace Hendrickson drove in Ridge with a single and stole second before Linsey Button followed with a two-run double down the left field line.
Dani Haley's second-inning, solo homer just inside the left field foul pole made it 3-1 and Chelsea Denman's single in the third plated Brooke Warner who led off the inning with a single.
Krumwiede singled with one out in the bottom of the third and advanced to second on an errant throw to second on Hendrickson's grounder to the pitcher. Button's sacrifice bunt advanced both runners and Gabby Smart followed with a two-run single to left center.
Krumwiede totaled three of the Tigers' seven hits, while five different Bishops collected one hit apiece.
Kahla Nolan improved to 13-7 after scattering five hits and striking out four. Haley dropped to 6-6.
Ohio Wesleyan grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first inning of the nightcap as Erica Bryan led off with a single and moved to second when Cassi Ladina reached on a sacrifice bunt. An error on the play allowed Bryan to move to third. Denman followed with a single to left center, scoring Bryan.
The Tigers countered in the bottom of the first when Sammi Bell was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a passed ball. Taylor Golden's sacrifice bunt moved her to third and Ridge's ground out scored her.
Amanda Boyle walked with one out in the top of the Ohio Wesleyan third and stole second. Bryan's two-out single to left center made it 2-1.
DePauw evened the score in the third when Beth Chelmowski led off by being hit by a pitch and moved to third when Julia Waggoner reached on an error and advanced to second. Bell then hit a grounder that scored Chelmowski.
The score remained 2-2 until the bottom of the sixth when Bell led off with a solo homer to left center. Golden followed with a single and went to third when Ridge reached on an error. Krumwiede reached on a fielder's choice as Golden was thrown out at the plate. Hendrickson was hit by a pitch to load the bases and Button delivered a single that scored Ridge. Megan Landahl cleared the bases with a double to right center.
Button had two of DePauw's seven hits and Bryan totaled two of the Bishops' four.
Nolan improved to 14-7 after allowing just four hits and striking out six. Sarah Flint dropped to 5-6 with the loss.
DePauw returns to action on Saturday, April 12, with an NCAC doubleheader at Oberlin.
