Julian Gonzalez entered Saturday's game against Allegheny dangerously close to DePauw's all-time career scoring record. He needed one to tie and one more to break J.R. Foster's record of 48.
Gonzalez went out and scored three first half goals to put him at 16 on the season and 50 for his career to firmly put his name atop the list. In addition, he led the Tigers to a 4-0 win and the final spot in the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament.
Gonzalez's first goal came at 5:31 via an assist from Taras Tataryn. The record breaker followed after a punt from goalie Harrison Glover, giving Gonzalez a breakaway to score at 16:26. Just over a minute later, Gonzalez was at it again for goal number 50.
Gonzalez then shared the wealth with an assist to Jonathan Wheeler at 19:23. The Tigers went from leading 1-0 to leading 4-0 in a span of 2:57.
Twenty-six different Tigers saw playing time on senior day as neither team could find the net in the second half. Harrison Glover picked up his 11th win with 77:14 in net before being replaced by Michael McGrath, who picked up a save in the final 12:46.
The Tigers outshot Allegheny 14-8.
DePauw moves to 11-4-2 overall and 6-3 in the NCAC. As the No. 4 seed in the NCAC Tournament, they will travel to Kenyon on Wednesday for a 2:30 p.m. semifinals match.
