Greencastle, Ind. – Wooster turned in a solid second half after leading 37-36 at intermission and defeated DePauw 83-63 in North Coast Athletic Conference play on Saturday.
Wooster held a one-point lead at halftime after Riley Doody connected on a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to close the first 20 minutes. DePauw retook the lead 41-40 on a Nick Felke 3-pointer early in the second half, but the game swayed in Wooster's favor after that.
The Fighting Scots reclaimed the lead and grew it to 14 with 8:29 remaining at 62-48. DePauw started to heat up from there as they took a 10-0 run in the next two minutes to bring their deficit to within four at 62-58.
However, Wooster started a run of their own from that point on, ending the game on a 21-5 spree with DePauw connecting on just two field goals in the final 6:21.
Wooster's Spencer Williams led all scorers with 22 points. Wooster also got 19 from Blake Blair, and 14 each from Danyon Hempy and Reece Dupler.
DePauw shot 49 percent from the floor (24-of-49), 35 percent from 3-point range (7-of-20) and 44 percent from the free throw line (8-of-18). Wooster went 50 percent overall (30-of-60), 35 percent from beyond the arc (7-of-20) and 84 percent from the line (16-of-19).
Wooster held the advantage in rebounds 36-25, points in the paint 36-28, points off turnovers 23-16, second chance points 13-2, fast break points 10-0 and bench points 38-17.
DePauw falls to 2-5 overall and 0-3 in the NCAC, while Wooster improves to 5-3 overall and 3-2 in conference play.
DePauw returns to the court court next weekend when they travel to Allegheny and Hiram.
