Delaware, Ohio -- Ohio Wesleyan showed why they're one of the better teams in the nation after a 105-71 victory over DePauw on Saturday.
Nate Axelrod led the 16th-ranked Battling Bishops with 29 points and eight assists. Seth Clark added 20 points, and Jaret Gerber scored 15 off the bench.
Both teams shot over 50 percent from the floor, but Ohio Wesleyan went 23-of-48 from beyond the arch (48 percent) while DePauw went 7-of-20 (35 percent).
Ohio Wesleyan also took 18 more shot attempts than DePauw, going 40-of-74 (54 percent) to DePauw's 28-of-56 (50 percent).
The Battling Bishops barely got the edge in rebounding 34-30 and only committed four turnovers, while forcing 14 from the Tigers.
DePauw outscored Ohio Wesleyan in bench points 39-31 and in points in the paint 36-30. However, Ohio Wesleyan took advantage in second chance points 13-0 and points off turnovers 20-9.
Ohio Wesleyan turned a 5-5 game at the 16:30 mark into a 30-11 game 6:17 later, hitting five 3-pointers in that span. They took a 58-28 lead into the half.
The two teams played closer in the second half with Ohio Wesleyan scoring 47 to DePauw's 43. Ohio Wesleyan's largest lead came at 46 with 10:53 remaining.
DePauw drops to 2-3 overall and 0-1 in the NCAC. Ohio Wesleyan is 5-1 overall and 1-0 in the conference.
The Tigers return home Wednesday to face Wittenberg.
