Tiger Tales is a weekly piece highlighting a DePauw student-athlete. Athletic-intern Kaela Goodwin conducts the interviews.
An injury has kept Adam Botts sidelined for the early portion of the men's basketball season, but he is eager to get back on the court to help the Tigers. He hopes to end his collegiate basketball career with an NCAC Championship and to make another run in the Division III NCAA Tournament.
In his past three years, Botts has made connections with peers that have made his college experience unforgettable. He plans to attend physical therapy school after graduating with a degree in Kinesiology this spring.
Q: What made you decide to play basketball? How old were you when you started?
A: I've been playing basketball my whole life. I was probably five years old when I started. I've always been a fan of the game and have loved playing, so I was very happy when I was able to continue playing in college.
Q: Do you have any pre-game rituals?
A: I'm not really into rituals, but I do pretty much get ready in the same way each time. I like to make sure I get out there early enough to get warmed up. I think warming up is really important so I always try to get a good warm up in before I start doing anything.
Q: What is something nobody on campus knows about you?
A: I'm a big TV show fan. I love Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad…shows like that.
Q: What are your hobbies outside of basketball?
A: I love hanging out with friends and watching sports on TV. Other than that I'm usually pretty busy studying.
Q: Where is your favorite place to study on campus?
A: I spend a lot of study time in my room, but I like studying in Julian as well because I think there's a good atmosphere there.
Q: What are three words you would use to describe yourself?
A: Easy-going, passionate and hardworking.
Q: What do you want to accomplish in your final basketball season at DePauw?
A: I would love for us to make a run in the NCAC Tournament again and get back into the NCAA tournament like we did last year.
Q: What is your favorite memory from your last three seasons?
A: There have been a lot of great memories. Obviously, last year when we won the NCAC Tournament and played well in the NCAA Tournament was great. Also, a lot of the bonds I've made with these guys over the years. Just playing basketball together has been great.
Q: What is something you wish you had known as a freshman coming into DePauw?
A: I just think it's important to take advantage of everything DePauw has to offer. There are a lot of great things here as far as the liberal arts education that I don't think you get at other schools. I would say that I wish I had taken more advantage of all the opportunities as a freshman.
Q: What is your favorite thing about being a student-athlete at DePauw?
A: Every student-athlete here truly has a love for their sport and for being a part of their team. I just love the camaraderie that comes with being on a team, and I think everybody really embraces that, no matter what the sport here. We have a great athletic community here.
Q: What is your favorite thing about DePauw?
A: I love the people here. From faculty to staff to students, everybody here is great, and I've really enjoyed my time.
