Bruce Leads Tigers in Season Opener

Newport News, Va. -- Senior Reilly Bruce scored twice to lead DePauw to a 2-1 win over Virginia Wesleyan during the team's season opener on Saturday.

On her first goal, Bruce was assisted by Paige Berliner at the 25:07 mark. With a 1-0 halftime lead, she gave the Tigers a much-needed insurance score at the 45:53 mark.

DePauw held that 2-0 lead for another 20 minutes until Virginia Wesleyan got one back at 67:40 with a goal by Elizabeth Roberto. She scored on Hannah Metzger, who saw her first action in net by playing the final seven minutes.

Sarah Foye played the first 63 minutes and picked up her first win of the season. No shots on goal were recorded against her.

DePauw (1-0) outshot Virginia Wesleyan (0-2) 22-8, which included 18 shots on goal. They also won the penalty corner advantage at 11-7.

The Tigers will remain in Virginia on Sunday to face Christopher Newport at 11 a.m.
