Greencastle, Ind.- After winning their third-straight conference championship the DePauw field hockey team has emerged as the preseason favorite in the 2014 North Coast Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll.
The Tigers finished 2013 with a 13-1 NCAC record and an overall record of 17-5, earning their second straight bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
Returning for DePauw are All-NCAC First Team selections Paige Henry and Grace Goodbarn. Henry paced the NCAC in goals with 20 and total points with 43, while Goodbarn added six goals and three assists in the midfield. Henry and Goodbarn were also named to the 2013 Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III All-Region First Team.
All-NCAC Second Teamers Maggie Campbell and Kylie Maloney and All-NCAC Honorable Mention selection Grace Fisher will look to help the Tigers capture a fourth-straight conference title. Campbell was second on the team with 12 goals and added five assists, while Maloney was a key piece in the DePauw defense and Fisher tallied two goals and four assists.
The Tigers also have goalie Maggie Steele returning to the cage for her senior season. Steele was first in the conference with 10 shutouts and second with a 0.90 goals-against average.
DePauw kicks off the 2014 campaign Saturday, August 30, when they travel to Hendrix for a 4 p.m. showdown.
