DePauw Stays Alive in NCAC Tournament with 9-3 Win over Allegheny
Chillicothe, Ohio - DePauw jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first and staved off elimination in the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament with a 9-3 win over Allegheny.
The 20-19 Tigers face Denison later this evening in another elimination game. The Big Red fell to Wooster, 16-5, earlier in the day.
In DePauw's four-run first, Robbie Stein tripled and Zach Starr walked before Cory Meixner clubbed a three-run homer to left. Brendon Pashia followed with a double and Ryan Allee drove him in with a single to right.
The Tigers made it 6-0 in the third as Meixner tripled and scored on Pashia's single and Pashia came home later in the frame when Ryan Grippo singled.
The Gators countered with two in the bottom half of the third as Kyle Emerson singled, Robert DiMaggio walked and Shane Regel advanced them one base with a sacrifice bunt. Eric Weyant's single plated Emerson and Kyle Davis' grounder brought home DiMaggio.
Stein's bases loaded sacrifice fly in the seventh pushed DePauw's lead to 9-3 before the Gators rounded out the scoring with Zach Gray's run-scoring single throught the right side that scored Davis.
Pashia led the Tigers with four of their 17 hits, while Stein and Meixner had three each. Grippo and McCallum each had two in the win. Mike Pezzone and Emerson each collected two of Allegheny's seven hits.
Jack Peck went the distance for the Tigers and improved to 4-2, while Steven Ramsdell dropped to 6-3.
