Greencastle, Ind.- After taking 3-of-4 from Wittenberg last weekend the DePauw baseball team earned a pair of North Coast Athletic Conference honors. Sophomore Wyatt Spector (Barrington, Ill./Lake Zurich) was tabbed as the Pitcher of the Week and senior Zach Starr (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) was named the Player of the Week.
Spector tossed six innings in a 3-1 victory over Denison on Wednesday, allowing just one run on seven hits. He followed that performance by throwing a complete-game in the Tigers' 9-2 win over Wittenberg on Sunday. The lefty scattered four hits surrendering two runs and striking out five.
Overall, Spector worked 13 innings on the week, striking out six, while giving up just three earned runs for a 2.04 ERA. He is now 2-1 in conference games with a 2.89 ERA.
Starr carried the offensive load for DePauw, as the designated hitter batted .500 (10-of-20) in seven games last week. He totaled five doubles, one triple and one home run for a 1.000 slugging percentage. On Saturday, Starr went a perfect 6-for-6 in the two game sweep. In game two, he drove in five RBI and scored two runs.
In total, Starr scored five runs, had three stolen bases and nine RBI on the week. He is now batting .337 on the year and leads the team with 26 RBI and is slugging .531.
Spector and Starr will look to lead the Tigers past Anderson tomorrow before battling Oberlin on Saturday with a spot in the NCAC Tournament on the line.
